Plowing Again

I like old tractors because its my way of reliving my younger day's on my grandfather's farms. I ended up with 5 acre's and a small John Deere MT and a pull type brush hog mower. The MT required some work after I got it, but the plow is why I'm writing. I wanted to use the MT more than just summer mowing. I researched the plow and other equipment used with the early Dubuque tractors. The few plows I would find for sale on the internet were across the country and priced for profit. At the intersection where my road meets the interstate is a used implement dealer. I told my wife I wanted to stop in one day when we were returning from a grocery trip. Stumbling through the weeds among old rusty use to be's. I found the plow that I had only seen pictures of. Total rust but complete with no modifications. The dealer acted surprised somebody would be interested in it. I explained I had a tractor matched to this plow and made him an offer. We settled at 150. 00. I ran back to the car hoping pure excitement on my part will help convince my wife that this opportunity shouldn't be passed up. She was reclined asleep with our check book protruding from her purse in the floor board. Integrity got the better of me and she was just glad to get back on the road. I returned a few days later with my pickup and it was loaded. The plow stayed there the rest of the winter adding weight to my rear axle. I couldn't go anywhere with out that plow generating conversations, especially with older gents who recognized what it was. This spring I disassembled it, sandblasted, painted, and dressed it with period correct decals. I've plowed every garden within a mile of my place Digging in watching the furrows turn over with the MT poppin takes me back when my dad let me at the controls when plowing was business.
