Tigers Live On

In 1956 my father purchased a Tiger Tractor, model 883, from a friend at work. It was four years old when he got it. Dad, my two brothers and I used this old Tiger to mow the lawn, plow snow, and haul the trailer loaded with whatever for many years. In 1976 when dad retired he bought a new 20 hp Wheel Horse and gave the old Tiger to my brother-in-law who had several acres to care for. However, his property was hilly and since the Tiger has NO brakes it was difficult to control in some situations and he purchased a more suitable machine. The Tiger then came to me in 1980. I decided to give her a good work over and clean her up a bit. After about two months I had the old girl looking and running pretty good. I have used her ever since, mainly in the winter to plow snow and in the summer just for fun. All the time I was always searching for info on Tigers.

Through the internet I made contact with a fellow who also had a Tiger 883 and he was interested in selling. . . so I bought. This one is a 1953 (I think) and it needed some serious work. I spent the summer tearing this one apart finding everything was there and in good condition. Once the rust and dirt were cleaned away all that was needed was paint. I finally found a part I needed for the B&S model 23 engine and now it runs just fine. This second Tiger also has dual rear wheels, an option which was not often purchased. I now have two Tiger 883 tractors, both in good running condition. These old tractors were built to last with just a little TLC. I hope to show the tractors next year at the local Steam and Tractor show here in western PA. If anyone has a Tiger I'd love to hear from you. Maybe we can swap information.
