Plowing Goof

When I was about 14, Dad told me to go next door to the neighbor's and plow his large garden patch for him, and to plow the reverse of what we did last year (dead furrows in the center). I got the 8N, hooked up the 2 bottom Dearborn and headed out to the neighbors. Plowed from outside in as instructed and got'er almost done. Got to the end of about the last run, hit the left brake hard to turn back to finish, and WHAM. Stopped, and the moldboard extension had hit a 6 inch maple sapling as the tractor swung around and snapped that moldboard right in half.....no more plowing that day. We welded up the moldboard and ground it off smooth, but that plow never did work perfectly again until we replaced the moldboard. Needless to say, Dad was NOT happy.
