How I came about my 53 Ford JubileeWhile sitting in the dialysis chair reading the classifieds, I came upon this ad “53 Ford Jubilee with cultivator and disk 200. 00” I immediately picked up my cell phone and called the seller and told her that I would buy it sight unseen and that I would be at her house by 8:30 PM and if I was not there by then she could sell it to the next buyer. She agreed. My wife picked me up and away we went. It being dark when we arrived, I briefly looked it over and gave the seller check and told her that I would be back over the weekend to look it over some more and make arrangements to have it picked. Sunday afternoon after Church the Wife and I go back for a looksee and while we inspecting it more carefully, the neighbor Lady came out and told us to get away from that Tractor that it was Ours nor was it for sell. I explained that I had bought it form her neighbor and she proceeds to tell me that it was not the Ladies to sell. But she agreed to take us and show us where the real owner lived, we go and find his house but he was not home. Well, I decided I wanted nothing to do with this neighbor dispute so I dropped the matter. About 4 weeks Later after much pondering about that tractor and looking at the precision model of a Jubilee on my office bookshelf, I decided to go and see if the tractor was still in the Lady’s yard. Sure enough it was, and I go back to the owners house and low and behold he was in the yard. He is an elderly man, we exchange pleasantries and I tell him that I am interested in his tractor. Now the tractor has been sitting in the open for five years, cover with a tart that has shredded, no air in any tires, had been repainted with a brush and the paint was flaking and peeling, spark plug wires deteriorated and dead battery so no need to even try and start it. The Gentleman tells me what he wants for it and I thought he was about 500. 00 dollars too high, but I countered his offer. He took my card put it in his wallet and told me he would call me before he put it in the paper. I thought that would be the end of it. Low and behold, about 6 weeks later The Gentleman called me and said I could have his Tractor at my offer. Without discussing it with my wife, I Immediately took him up on his offer. The Tractor in my backyard now as I look forward to get it running and back into service. Don Hanna, FL, entered 2002-05-15 My Email Address: Not Displayed |
