My Beautiful Tractor

I'm thankful to have a place to talk about the reason behind buying my old Ford 8N. I lost my son in July, and let me tell you it's taken alot of tears and a little tractor to help me through.

I have several acres that needed to be mowed but I didn't care much about anything last summer. My lawn tractor had bitten the dust as well and I really wanted to take out my grief on that thing by filling it with holes via shotgun, but instead I had it fixed only to have it break down on me again and again, frustration ensued.

In August, I was attending my youngest son's football game in a little town about an hour from here, after the game I took a wrong turn home, and lo and behold on a street corner was this little Ford tractor with a for sale sign on it. In those days I didn't notice much, only doing what I had to do, but that tractor caught my eye and I stopped to check it out. The man who put it up for sale said he just put the sign on it a couple hours before I passed that corner. We got to talking and he encouraged me to sit on it and start it up.

When that engine roared to life, it was as if it was talking to me saying 'I'll help you out, you need me.' Needless to say, I bought it. A really kind family friend offered to help me trailer it home, showed me how to take care of it, explaining everything I needed to know to operate it. That tractor means more to me than many know, when I'm having a particularily rough day, I start her up and tool around, she's slow but steady, her engine drives out many annoyances and helps me focus on whats at hand and what really needs to be done. I can't wait for Spring to arrive again, mowing and gardening with my old tractor I've named Beauty. I love that little tractor, I'm thankful I found her, though her battery is dead as of yesterday, I'll take it and charge it up so she'll be ready for a ride when I am.

Just wanted to share that, some things just can't be fixed in life, and some things can, who would have thought a little old tractor could bring such joy to a heartbroken mom? I think my son had a hand in helping me out with a wrong turn and the right fix.
