|Generations of Fords|
My grandfather owned a fairly large turkey and beef farm until about the 80's when my grandfather gave the farm to my dad. Along with the farm, my dad also got all of the machinery. When my grandfather was farming in his day, he was chopping down a tree and a horrible accident happened and the tree crushed his back. He was then paralyzed from the waist down but he still had the motovation to farm. He then sold all of his tractors and bought Ford tractors because of their low clearence to the ground. My granfather then installed hand brakes and a handclutch on all of them. He was able to pull himself up on to the tractor and then operate it with ease. I'm not sure how many Fords he bought all together but I have seen photos of a few, He had two ford 4000 (4 cyl. gas) and two 601 Workmasters. When my dad was old enough to drive and work the machinery he then bought bigger Fords. then in the 80's my granfather retired farming and moved down the road, thus turning the farm over to my mother and father.
As far as I can remember there was blue all over the farm. We still have all the tractors and my grandfather has boughten a few more for his current home. All the tractors he and my family has owned have been restored. I have added to the collection of working machines myself when I purchased a Ford 5000 and I am currently restoring a 601 Workmaster. Its very interesting to walk throught the old sheds and find hidden surprises. Just alittle while ago I found some Ford wheel weights, A Dearborn font loader and so on. Currently the Mans' own: 1 ford 601 workmaster, 1 ford 3000, 1 2610 industrial, 3 Ford 4000's, 1 Ford 5000, 1 Ford 5600, and 1 Ford 6600. My cousin also owns a Ford tractor shop so there is always blue around there.
I hope to keep the Ford collection roaring and working. Thank you for your time.
