Christine Farmall 806 - Got Her at Last

When I was a young boy in the 60s I lived in a small town. Dad had a business there. I had school freinds that lived on farms and I loved to go to their places when I could. They had all the tractors and farm equipment and cows and horses, barns, ponds, fishing etc. Their fathers would have them doing work in the fields on tractors. I was red with envy. Common on these small rural farms were Farmall 806s. I loved the way they looked, sounded and so on. I wanted to have that life. My grandfather had 50 acres, they would share crop for other farmers but he had no equipment. I told DAD what I wished for, well in the 70s he bought 33 acres near grandpas place. It was overgrown and we spent many weekends clearing and cleaning it up with chain saws and sometimes a borrowed tractor. He died not long after that, suddenly at 52. I graduated and worked a job in town too, untill eventually I moved there on the 33acres and bought my grandfathers 50. Got a little Ford tractor, stopped share cropping and started raising cattle. Evetually I needed to start making my own hay so bought old hay equipment. I needed a bigger tractor too. One day I saw an ad for a Farmall 806 for sale - not too far away and went for a ride to see it. Well she was rough, I was told she been in the shed a long time and the shed collapsed on her. The hood, muffler, steering wheel and fender were all bent up. The paint was all faded, flat tires, etc but she ran and sounded good. The owner had died and they were selling his estate so I got her real cheap. I took her home and showed my daughter, who laughed and said it reminded her of that movie Christine about an old beat up red car where the boy was fixing her up. With hammer work, a new steering wheel, muffler, welded exhaust manifold, a fixed rear tire and new front tires she looked pretty good. I left the old paint, it fits her. She works great and I love this tractor. I stencled the name Christine on her tool box. HA HA! At 55 living farm life got me an 806 haha. Thanks Dad and mom and grandpa and grandma.
