Bad day at Dan Pike Auction Co.

In April 2008 I bought a combine from my grandpa's neighbor for 400. Shes a 1975 John Deere 4400 Diesel. I bought it with a 444 corn head but with that being a 38inch corn head I decided I would take out a loan from the bank of grandma and buy a 443 corn head and a 216 platform. We arived at the auction in lakefield, minnesota. We arived when they were selling tractor mirrors and CB radios. My grandpa met up with some of his friends and we stated walking around togather. My grandpa had brought his old stalk chopper and a sunflower disk ripper. when they started selling equiptment me and my grandpa went over to get a bit to eat. After we sat down my grandpas friend kenny came over and said ' yah I just baught that piece of crap stalk chopper '. and me and my grandpa started laughing. and after we told kenny he had bought my grandpas stalk chopper all he could do was kick at the dirt. But the day didnt end so bad for me. In the end I went home with a 444 ( 444 narrowed to 30 inches ) corn head and a 216 platform. I now owe my grandparents 2000 from the original 4850 it took to buy the headers I quess you could say thats pretty good for a 13 year old!

Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract. ... [Read Article]
